It’s the witching hour, and it seems every coven this side of Salem has gotten the message. With the Enchanted Throne vacant, witches circle it like vermin around a bubbling cauldron. Witches are drawn to places of power like moths to a flame; their rituals and incantations are catalyzed by ancient powers that lurk in unsuspecting surroundings. Nothing is as tempting as the promise of power.

My top 10 games for Essen Spiel 2023

It’s that time of year again! One of my highlights of the year – the Spiel convention in Essen – is almost upon us. This year, Spiel will be the final weekend of my three-week holiday. As you’re reading this, I am probably somewhere in Croatia, Slovenia, or Austria. It’s the perfect moment for me to start hyping the games I’m excited to see at the convention. Let’s go!

Coffee Roaster – a solo review

When last year I decided to go to Spiel for the first time, I knew I had to pick up this one game: Coffee Roaster. A hard to get Japanese solitaire game about making coffee, Coffee Roaster‘s limited supplies at Spiel used to run out quickly each year. When Stronghold Games announced their reprint of this thing that combines too of my loves (board games and coffee), my determination to get this game at Spiel wasn’t diminished in the slighest.

My top 10 for Spiel 2019

This year will mark the first time I visit Spiel, Europe’s largest board gaming convention, in Essen. Me and a friend are going for two days, so we need to prioritize what to see and where. If you didn’t know it – Spiel is huge. Something wouldn’t be right, though, if I didn’t make a list for it. Here are the 10 games I really want to see and/or bring back home.
